Thermobreak is a flexible thermal insulation material made from closed-cell, crosslinked polyolefin foam, factory bonded to pure, reinforced aluminium foil. It is also available with adhesive backing, enabling fast and simple installation.

Thermobreak is available in
continuous rolls
tube
sheets

The special electron-beam crosslinking process utilised in the production of the material, as well as its closed cell structure, results in insulating properties that are superior to conventional fibreglass, rubber-based and non-crosslinked products.

A very low thermal conductivity value (k), almost zero vapour transmission rate, reflect in its superior energy saving performance, and trouble -free operation in a variety of environments.
Thermobreak products are Fire Retardant (FR) and meet most international fire and smoke standards such as

• BCA (Building Code of Australia)
- requirements to AS1530.3-Early Fire Hazard

• British Standards BS476 parts 6&7
--(Class O rating)

• UL Recognised product.

• ISO 5659 - Smoke Density and Toxicity

Independently Tested and Certified
Critical insulation performance factors such as thermal conductivity, vapour permeability, fire performance, smoke density and toxicity are tested and certified by independent laboratories. Copies of all the certificates are included in our Technical Information Kit.

Application Areas
Thermobreak has been successfully used in the following applications:

• Duct Insulation
• Roof Insulation
• Raised Floor Insulation
• Underslab Insulation
• AC Unit Insulation
--(internal insulation of units, evaporators, etc).
• Transportation AC
--(commuter bus and train AC units, automotive
-- AC units).
• General Thermal Insulation
- (large diameter pipes, tanks, vessels, etc).

Benefits
• Excellent insulation properties due to low k
--value, that remain unchanged during service
--life and are unaffected by humidity.

• The closed-cell structure will not absorb
--or allow the spread of water, thus preventing
--condensation or frost formation on cooling
--systems, chilled water & refrigerant lines.
--No additional water vapour barriers are
--required.

• Supplied with reinforced aluminium foil,
--for increased performance and quicker
--installation. Adhesiva backing is also available.

• Wide working temperature (-80°C to +100°C).

• Thinner gauges can be used to achieve
--effective insulation due to low k value. This
--also allows the use of material in areas with
--space limitations.

Health and Safety
• Completely user friendly, does not emit dust
--or fibre particles in service or during
--installation. No special precautions (such
--as face masks or gloves) are required
--during installation.

• Non irritant and odourless.

• Does not allow build up of bacteria
- contamination.

• Resistant to fungi.

• Environmentally friendly - made from
- polyethylene without the use of CFC's
- or HCFC's.

Acoustic Insulation

• Excellent vibration dampener.

•-Reduced transmission of structural borne noise - and vibration, due to closed cell structure

• Also acts as a barrier reducing the
--transmission of noise from the source.

Chemical Resistance

• Inert to most acids, alkalis, detergents,
- alcohols, esters and ketones.

Insulation Performance

The insulating properties of Thermobreak are unlike conventional insulation materials. As an example, the insulating performance of Thermobreak increases with lower densities, whilst the opposite is true for fibreglass.

The low thermal conductivity value of Thermobreak, as well as its cellular crosslinked structure, are central to its superior insulation properties and energy savings.

A marked reduction of heat transfer can be achieved at relatively low thicknesses. It is on this basis that many consultants have specified 10mm & 12mm thick material in place of 25mm fibreglass. In addition, the minimal compression of Thermobreak around duct corners and pin mounting allows Thermobreak to maintain consistent insulation performance, even after years of service.

ThermaCalc our computer based design program is available to assist you with the right thickness selection.
